AgilePoint NX v7.0 Releases – End of Support: When and What to do Next?

By end of 2024, AgilePoint will cease all support, including feature updates and security patches for AgilePoint NX v7.0 release family. To avoid security risks and environment downtime, users must plan to migrate to latest version of AgilePoint NX.

This post applies to:

All users on customer hosted on-premises/private cloud, who are on AgilePoint NX v7.0, AgilePoint NX v7.0 Software Update 1, AgilePoint NX v7.0 Software Update 2 and AgilePoint NX v7.0 Software Update 2.X, where X can be till 7. This post does not apply to AgilePoint hosted clouds since those are upgraded to the latest and the greatest versions continuously.

What does End of Support mean?

All the versions of the software related to AgilePoint NX v7.0 release family will reach the end of support (EoS) on December 31, 2024. After this end date, AgilePoint will no longer provide security fixes, bug fixes or technical support. Using v7.0 versions of the product after end of support leaves your organization vulnerable to potential security threats, productivity losses, compliance issues and environment downtime.

The reason for End of Support:

As part of our commitment to providing you with the best possible experience, we periodically review and update our software offerings. As a technology vendor, AgilePoint sets end-of-life dates for outdated older product versions to encourage the adoption of the latest offerings and to avoid security risks related to outdated architecture and code. Post the support date, the software is more vulnerable to cyber-attacks, performance issues and are at risk of not getting product support from 3^rd party vendors. Consequently, we have decided to end support for certain older versions of our software, which was also communicated at the time of license issue. As per our licensing terms and condition, AgilePoint supports only the current major version (AgilePoint NX v9.0) and previous major version (AgilePoint NX v8.0). A lot of compelling reasons exist on why upgrade from AgilePoint NX v7.0 must be planned.

Risks of using AgilePoint NX v7.0 releases past its EoS:

1. Lack of support: Most of the AgilePoint NX v7.0 installations are using unsupported version of Windows Server (2016 and 2012). Most of deployments use Windows SQL Server (2012 and 2017) versions that are not currently supported by Microsoft. It is recommended by Microsoft to move to Windows Server 2022 and upgrade to Windows SQL Server 2022.
2. Browser compatibility: The latest version of the modern browsers (Google Chrome/Mozilla Firefox/Microsoft Edge/Apple Safari/others) do not support some of the outdated libraries and features used in AgilePoint NX v7.0.
3. Latest .NET Framework: Microsoft’s .NET framework 4.8.1 is the most secure run time environment, bringing in lots of stability and improvement in speed. The latest version of AgilePoint uses the Microsoft’s .NET framework 4.8.1. AgilePoint NX v7.0 releases use outdated .NET Framework 4.7.1, released in October 2017.
4. Security risks: AgilePoint regularly rolls out security fixes in the form of hot fixes and security updates. The lack of these critical updates, makes the software more vulnerable to malware attacks, environment downtime, data breach, data destruction and exposure to ransomware.
5. Compliance risks: Many of our customers work in highly regulated environments. If they are caught using unsupported software, this may result in compliance violations resulting in hefty fines, damage to reputation and even a potential loss of revenue.
6. Reduced functionality: Over the last few years, AgilePoint has invested heavily in product R&D. Additionally, as software such as browsers evolve, many features stop working. Over time, this can lead to reduced functionality and compatibility issues with latest software.
7. Increase in cost of maintenance: As software compatibility issues keep popping up, custom coding and customer specific patching/configuration would be needed in order to keep the software environment running. These are costly and risky operations which may further lead to potential security issues.

History of AgilePoint NX v7.0 Releases:

AgilePoint NX v7.0 was made available to AgilePoint cloud users in July 2018 and to on-premises/private cloud users in September 2018. We followed it with Software Update 1 in Jan 2019 for AgilePoint cloud users and Feb 2019 for on-premises/private cloud users. This was followed by Software Update 2 in Aug 2019 for both AgilePoint cloud and on-premises/private cloud users. The final hotfix AgilePoint NX v7.0, Software Update 2, Cumulative Update 7 (SU2.7 in short) was rolled out in December 2021.

1. Entire UX has been fully revamped to a modern and intuitive user interface. This includes revamped Work Centre User experience and features to improve user collaboration.
2. Increase productivity by embracing the citizen developer features. Enterprise application development and rollout can be now done by non-technical folks in your enterprise.
3. During AgilePoint NX v8.0 timeframe, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 were implemented. These brought in additional security processes into the product S-SDLC. This includes implementation of Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT), Static Application Security Testing (SAST) and Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST).
4. The product has improved accessibility Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT). It includes Section 508, with corrections to the ICT Final Rule, latest Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) guidelines and latest EN 301 549 accessibility requirements.
5. Build beautiful reports and dashboards with our next generation analytics platform.
6. Spreadsheet – Import and export content directly into data tables using data entities and also use Excel files as a data source for your apps.
7. Support added for several third-party connectors, authentication providers and eForm controls.
