In this article we are going to look into next big feature which has been introduced in AgilePoint NX v8.0 Software Update 2 release.
AgilePoint NX platform has always been considered very strong for developing process based apps and that has been one of its strength area for nearly two decades. Back in 2018, we extended the platform to include ability to create form-based apps using which citizen developers could also create data management apps which involved no process.
A form-based app is an app, that allows the user to perform operations such as view, insert, update or delete records from the configured data source via a corresponding app. For example, a form-based app is very useful for the use case of a person updating personal data such as current address or phone number or managing data such as company announcements, news etc. which might not need any process.
This feature was very well received within our customer base as they could start with a simple form-based app to digitize existing data collection and then bring in process logic at a later stage. Customers started creating hundreds of these apps but one feature which was high on customer wish list was ability to send notifications when a record is added, edited or deleted something which they were able to do in process-based apps only. I am happy to announce that this feature is now available in the platform for form-based apps as well.
What you can do with notifications
Notifications can help you keep track of what’s happening in your application. You can set up an email notification whenever a record has been changed in any way, or added or deleted. You can create your own email message or use the default message AgilePoint creates. The email content can include fields from the record. You could even search past notifications sent for form-based apps using Manage Center.
When notifications won’t be sent
Notification won’t be send when changes are done in bulk on multiple records. For example, if someone changes multiple customer records during the same operation. However you could still setup a notification when records are deleted in bulk in which case you can send a single notification with all deleted record IDs using a system variable.
Let’s look at this feature in action.
Note: Please note that this video is recorded while this feature is in beta version. Some of the labels and icons might change by the time it goes GA but the general concept of configuring these notifications would remains the same.
